Group Work - Construction Process 3

The following video shows the process of editing in which takes place again in Leake street tunnel. Zacaria has used a fade out offset in which lasts 0.5 seconds. The transition of these two clips is effective due to the scene of the music video also changing. Zacaria then went back to the beginning of the music video to watch and try to spot any mishaps or mistakes within the edit thus far.

The next scene in which is shown in the video is actor changing location. As seen in the video the use of the magnifying tool on the timeline is used to change the clips per frame. This tool is very useful in the editing the music video as it allows the video to be edited more specifically, this technique allowed us to cut the clip precisely where the actor goes out of frame and subsequently changes shot location. This is effective as it helps provide continuity and allows the audience to keep guessing as to where the actor went.

The next shot in which we used was a editing technique in which Zacaria used is a zoom, the zoom effective was used in the alleyway of the Chinatown location and is very useful in making the alley way look longer than it was originally. The use of the zoom is constructed by using the magnifying tool on Sony Vegas. This is then combined the with speed of the clip to alter the speed.

After this scene the repition of the cut was used to a black screen. This was achieved by cutting the clip at the point of which preferred and then repeating this motion several time on the timeline bar, this effective is very effective in creating separation throughout the music video and specifically in particular this scene.

There was a subtle fade used by Zacaria, which instead of faded into black faded into the next clip directly. This effect  was successful in bringing a new element to the music video and one not previously used in the video. The effect is used by through the use of once again the fade in tool. Zacaria then faded the two clips together with the image of the polaroid picture in between the two clip by placing the image between the two on the timeline.

Group Work- Construction process 2

Group Work- Construction process 2

When starting the new scene the editor once again uses the technique of placing all of the clips onto the timeline, this is too sort the continuity of the music video and ensure the clips are in order to the story board. The editor then used the quick selection tool and chose multiple clips and move them across the timeline, this is a useful tool as it allows large numbers of clips to be moved and edited at once.  The editor has then used an effect called “strobe” this effect is apparent in the video when the actor is walking through the tunnel with the flare lit. The effect is used by implement fades over images and then changing the opacity of a clip that is placed behind the same clip on the timeline. The strobe effect was used a magnitude of times throughout this time period of the video and allows the consumers to feel the significance of this particular scene.

The editor then used a zoom tool over the clips to enlarge the lyrics as if the consumer is walking with the actor. This is a powerful image and shows that the audience is hopefully going to be more engaged and feel part of the music video. Throughout the construction process of our video it is clear to see through the video that the repition of reviewing the clips was prominent in our work, Due to the timeline feature we were able to edit and change parts of the music video in which we did not feel met the length requirements or the editing could be tampered with.

As seen in the construction process above the velocity of the clips were changed during the process of making, this was achieved by clicking the timeline on the selected clips and then moving the velocity line either up or down depending on the change being made. The editor in this clip was changing the velocity down and making the clip run smoother and slower. The use of the effect makes the music video contain more visual effects and make the segment slower so throughout the music video show progression, as the sped will increase as the journey intensifies. This tool was later used again on the scene in which the actor is holding the flare.

After this Zacaria has then returned to the beginning of the music video due to the clip lengths needing to be altered at the start of the video. This was a problem consistently throughout the music video construction process and one in which was consistently changed throughout the construction process.

Experimental Shots

1)When looking at the first experimental shot we have chosen to use this shot as we can change a variety of different elements about this particular video. When initially looking at the shoot we can see that it is a long shot due to the whole actor being in shot. the actor begins standing still however this can change as when editing we can make clip start as the actor is running, this creates a continuos movement and allows the clip too move much more frequently and smoothly. We have decided to using this particular clip however as we believe the camera can be held with less shaking and maybe the use of a tripod was also in our thought process. At the end of the clip the actor also runs into the camera, this could be used of an effective transition as the screen could become dark, leading into the next scene.

2) The next experimental shot we have chosen is with the actor laying down in the bus, this shot is taking on a London bus moving towards outrĂ© next destination. we have decided to use the is shot to give our music video a clear theme of journey throughout the video. we believe this allows our music video to advance nicely throughout the whole video. there are a number of different editing techniques and visuals elements we can edit not the video to make it more visually pleasing and look less like a filler clip.

3) This clip was taken in richmond park, the naturalistic feel too the clip is very effective and has a direct correlation to the previous scene. the scene provides a different feel too music video as it a more rural scene. The clip is a long shot again showing the whole body of the actor allowing the audience to see the mis-en-scene of the actor as the music video is nearing its conclusion.

4) The next shot is a medium shot of the actor on top of the Northolt hills. We were not necessarily planning this shot when construction our research such as the shooting schedule or the script however due to improvisation and creative thinking we are able to identify a possible effective shot using a low angle shot to allow the audience to gain an alternate perspective of the surroundings and the actor himself.

Group work - Construction Process 1

When initially creating the music video we have started by initially trying to use adobe premier pro, we stated by placing all of the video clips into the software however due to the limited amount of knowledge we have on this software we decided to change the software in which we edited on to Sony Vegas. This piece of software is much easier to use and we are familiar with the programme.  As shown in the video we have first started the editing the music video with initial placing the song onto the timeline.  We have done this, as it will allow us to gain a rough estimation of where the clips will need to be place and what editing technique will need to be inserted.

We then sorted the clips into a drop box in a shared Google drive account, which allows us to input the clips easily into any computer system which has the software Sony Vegas, this is beneficial to us as the Editor Zacaria Elarichi has the software at home and is able to work upon the video. After placing all of the individual clips into the software we then began too place the clips to each individual scene on the software, this started with the scene located in Brentford canal. Upon choosing the first scene due to the research in which we conducted the first clip was explained in both the script and the storyboard.  We have decided to place the initial clips at the beginning of the music video with the convention of modern media videos being used “Cutting to the beat” as shown in the video. This process required the editor to rewatch the video several times to judge the exact time the clip should be shortened too.  The editor then uses a fade effect after the medium close up of the actor this is achieved by highlighting the individual clip and leaving a space between the following clip. This allows there to be a black colour in the middle of the two clips. Once the clip is highlighted it can be edited and the effect could be used and positioned at the end if the clip

The editor has then decided to shorten the clips further due to the fear of the clips being too long and the video not matching the lyrics. The editor has changed this by use the cut tool. This tool allows the editor to change the length of the clip to either shorten or extend the initial clip we have decided to do this as it allows the editor space to retry if the music video turns out to be too long. The editor has then moved two clips together in order to use a fast beat cut, this cut is then used again in the next two following shot. The editor has achieved this by placing the clips on the timeline together allowing no space in between the clips. This is effective as it allows the transition to be fast and apply with the current codes and conventions of modern EDM music videos.

The editor has then used an effect called “rewinding” this shot is apparent when the actor is walking down the stairs in the first location. The editor dragging the original clip over the timeline and making face created this effect the other direction. This clip is effective and looks visually pleasing for the audience. This effect is useful and makes the rest of the following clips run allot smoothly. The use of the event end tool was key in allowing us too shorten the lengths in which subsequently allows us too perform tasks such as cutting to the beat much more easily and proficiently, Cutting clips was a very time consuming process which took allot of energy and patience. Due to the replaying tool the editor is allowed to view the clips as they are being edited this is key as it allows the editor to see the changes he is making to the music video.

Another key part of this edit was the audio, the audio was easily used placed over the top of the clips and muting the existing clips and only using the song In which we placed over the top of the visual images on the timeline. When attempting to match the audio and lyrics together we cam across that this process is also quite time consuming and took a number of tries to eventually match the lyrics and visuals. We have used this is in the times such as when the lyrics “faded” is pronounced. We have once again input the technique of fading the clips end. We have done this as the key theorist in which we studied “Andrew Goodwin” stated that in music videos there is always a link between the visuals and the lyrics.

Through the repition of the fade tool we have combined the fade and cutting to the beat task to create a visual that fades out of one clip and only starts when the beat is introduced on the following clip, this clip can be seen at 00:30 into the video, we believe that this clip is effective in the music video as it allows the audience to be engaged into the video and also adds a subtle difference to the  video in which makes the outcome look more professional.
