MUSIC VIDEOS TECHNIQUES / MEDIA LANGUAGE ANALYSIS

Nicki Minaj - Anaconda

This song is considered Rap/Hip-Hop and the song is a comedic song with lost of sexual innuendoes throughout the entirety of the video. The song firstly starts of with a school bell ringing, this is often met with euphoria as this signals the end of something that is usually dull/boring. Nicki Minaj uses this to her advantage as she uses this to show the start of her song. The opening of the song shows Nicki (The main artist) Bending over looking seductivley into the camera, this shot is now well known and has been the subject of some controversy due to explicit pose and bey language she was suggesting. The scenery around Nicki is a jungle type utopia with other women alongside Nicki Minaj. The title of the song can be seen as a sexual innuendo as an anaconda can be seen as a phallic symbol and one that i not suitable for younger viewers. the song starts of fast paced shows Nicki in various positions an locations. the shot below shows the change in location to one in a more surreal white backdrop. the costume has also changed with Nicki wearing a more colourful garment, this suggests that this current genre uses allows their artists to change clothes and to avoid repetition and make the consumer more engaged in the music video.  In terms of lighting it is clear to see that the lighting in the jungle seen has been tampered with, there is an apparent gold colour looming in the air which makes the music video look very unique and different when comparing this piece of work to others in their genre.

When venturing on with the video there is an apparent dance scene, this is usually seen in the genre of pop however can be seen in some rap/hip-hop videos. I believe the dance scene goes with the video as it allows a break from the jungle scene and transitions into a more fresh and exclusive scene, when watching the dance scene bell hooks theory is apparent with the lighter skinned women being more desirable and sexualised. this is due to Nicki Minaj dancing very aggressively and in a sexual manner. When creating our own music video we must keep theortists in our mind as that way we will know that we are applying to the current trends/ codes and convention of modern day society and our music genre in general.
In this scene Nicki is wearing vey little clothing and is being sexualised as well as four other women. This is once again the representation of the specific genre. The colours in which Nicki are wearing suggest she is very feminine, pink is stereotypically a feminine colour with white being the colour the best represents purity.

Cutting to the beat

During this lesson i have created a cutting to the beat task using the computer software Wondershare Filmora, this programme allowed me to choose from a variety of different songs and also input my own images to create a effective piece of coursework.

MUSIC VIDEOS TECHNIQUES / MEDIA LANGUAGE ANALYSIS

For my second piece of research i have decided to use "Just the way you are" by Bruno Mars. I have chosen this sing as it is a different genre than the previous song i have researched which will allow me to gain more knowledge of codes and conventions within the music video scene of a different variety.

MUSIC VIDEOS TECHNIQUES / MEDIA LANGUAGE ANALYSIS

For research I have decided to use the song " Coming Home" by the Kaiser Chiefs, I have decided to use this song as it will allow me to gain imperative knowledge on the Indie/Rock genre in which i could use when creating my own music video. I have decided to use the presentation software Prezi as this allows me to clearly display information clearly and also i have used this software for AS Media and therefore am familiar with how it works.

Music Video Techniques/ Media Language Analysists

This presentation will contain my music video techniques and language analysis's, I have chosen this specific song as I am familiar with the lyrics and the music video, I believe this song will help me to construct the group work due to the song being very mainstream and having a well though out narrative performance.

Final Lip Syncing Result.

When making my lip syncing video i used the existing codes and conventions that i have learnt from the previous year of media, during the shooting of the video i soon ca to the realisation of his hard the genre of music i chose was too  lip sync. This became a major problem as this made me and my group retake scenes several times, In the end we had to play the music loudly for the actor to hear the music while performing the lip sync.

In terms of editing me and my group have experimented allot when it comes too transitions and the opening scene, we decided to input an opining title as this will make the video look more professional and complies with the current codes and conventions of a music video. In terms of transitions we have used a combination of effects such as the white fade and also a effect tin which the camera man has transitioned away from the actor into the sky in order for the audience to understand the gap in the music. e did not use any colour correction on the pice and had decided to use the natural lighting we gained while shooting the video, we believe that the pictures are still very clear and are easily seen.

In terms of mis-en-scene we had limited resources, due to the shot being set in school we did not have the time or resources to make the artists look like the traditional genre, however we have chosen and actor who naturally has the style and persona that enabled us to create good images and consistent shots, we decided to base the lip syncing task too another song in which we have both watched which is Stormzy - Where Do you Know me from. As seen in the lip syncing videos the same on take is used while the actor is walking towards the camera.

Exploring Lip Syncing / Preperation

During todays lesson we have been placed into groups in which we have to explore the art of lip syncing, this task involves us researching videos and content of lip syncing g and then later applying this to our own music. When first discussing the task me and my partner have similar taste in music and which we both made music magazines upon last year. This will be crucial as it proves that we are compatible to work together as we share common beliefs and ideas. During this lesson we have recorded a few ideas in which we have gained an actor in which we both agreed fitted the common stereotypical views of someone from that genre of music looks like.

Lip sync/ body language.
We firstly made sure out actor knows all of the lyrics to the songs in which we have shortlisted. After compliance we then rehearsed the actors body language in preparation for shooting. While rehearsing we realised the actor suited the role well and then began to try and find a location suitable to shoot in.

Location
When looking for a location we decided to use the schools parking lot, we have decided to use this as it will provide us with enough lighting and space too shoot the music video. After this we hagen to shoot and are positive we can edit the clips we have into a short lip syncing task.

The editing process will take place next lesson however we are very excited to get started and have been looking at some editing techniques we can use in the meantime on social media sites such as YouTube.

DISCOVERING FILMING AND EDITING TECHNIQUES / 180 DEGREE RULE

Short western film and research Into the 180 degree rule

My teacher has asked me and the rest of my class to recreate a short western film that represents the traditional values of a western shootout scene. This is my first taste of work in regards to A2 media and also my first piece of work in A-Level media in which I had to work within a group. My group was given a camera after watching an example of a western shootout in class. This gave us a rough idea of what is in a western shootout in regards to props, locations, camera angles and attire. When our group is finished the work we then must being the post production process which involves the groups to use a software which has not been used before called Adobe Elements 12.

My group have created a story board where we are able to look back at the work and shoot specific shots based on the story board we have created. It is significant for my group to use the story board effectively as it allows me and my group to easily refer back to the story board and overall have an idea of what clips we are shooting at all times.

The 180 degree rule is:  The rule states that the camera(s) should remain the same side of an imaginary line. The line is drawn perpendicular the camera’s viewpoint in the establishing shot of the scene, The rule enforces continuity of the film An example is that in a car chase scene, if the car is travelling from right to left, the next shot must also be shot from the same side, meaning the car has to enter the frame right to left again. The same applies for football matches and other sport.

Introduction to A2 Media

My name is Jack and I am a A-Level student currently studying at Acton high School.

This is my A2 Blog, in this blog I will be focusing on presenting my evidence in the making of a music video which will be the final product of this course. In this blog I will show evidence of creating this in different ways. For example I will be showing evidence which include research, planning and editing. I will be updating this blog on a regular basis as it will show clear evidence of work and progression from AS Media studies to A2 Media studies.

When making the final product I will need a group of individuals that my teacher has chosen to help support each other in making the final production. Other than me (Jack.Baxter, Candidate number: 1296) I will also be in a group along side Doaa Elmnayneh (Candidate number: 2321) and Zacaria Elarichi (Candidate number: 2069) And Momeena
